With their main residence in New Hampshire, the Owners purchased this 1952 Florida Ranch house to live during the winter months. They had a simple request, which was to enjoy the tropical climate and salvage the existing structure.

The design approach was to create a stronger connection between the interior and exterior spaces, resulting in a split-volume design centered around multiple outdoor living spaces.

A covered breezeway separates the two volumes with each space oriented towards the pool deck. The master suite addition is a detached volume connected by a new roofline that purposefully engages the existing structure. A perimeter wall creates the boundaries for an outdoor space that extends from the interior making the home feel much larger than its actual footprint, while also providing privacy from adjacent neighbors.

The home’s design conveys an environmental intimacy that is distinctly Floridan.
